CnJ Mount Buller Sprint 2008

Mount Buller Sprint 2008

The 2008 Mt Buller Sprint was staged successfully again on November 1 - 3. It is renown for being one of the southern hemisphere's premier tarmac hill climbs and attracted some of Australia's best drivers and cars, such as Tony Longhurst and Jim Richards. This exciting event was held for the fifth time at the ever-changing north-east Victorian ski resort under extremely challenging conditions.

Starting from the base of the challenging and scenic 16.1 km tourist road, the stage rose one kilometre with a gradient of up to 12 percent and passed through 132 turns before finishing at the spectacular Mt Buller Alpine village, where spectators could get up close to the cars and drivers.

As the jewel in Australia's tarmac hill climb crown, the winner of the Mt Buller Sprint 2008, Miedecke/Willson with a time of 1:18:47.60, was determined by combining the times from the 10, less the worst run, scheduled from Saturday to Monday. We would like to congratulate Miedecke and Willson for such a good result, which no doubt was due to excellent tyre choices, a well prepared car and driving faultlessly.

We would also like to congratulate Tony Longhurst and co-driver Jahmeil Taylor, in Car 4, a 2006 Subaru Impreza WRX STI Spec C, who continued their impressive tarmac performance to finish in an Unrivalled 2nd Place Outright with an overall time of 1hr 19m 00.26s. Longhurst/Taylor posted the second fastest time up the Mountain of 8:38.91, beaten only by a 2007 Lamborghini Gallardo Super. They evidently also achieved the fastest time up the Mountain by a Subaru. Tony and Jahmeil have combined for several rallies recently and always achieve consistent applaudable results with faultless driving. Scott Millar and Chris Dean came in a credible 30th position outright with a 1:29m 04.90s in the 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer EVO 10. This was a very good result as the Prologue was the first time that Scott had actually driven the vehicle. Both results were fantastic considering the challenging conditions that the drivers were facing. The road conditions varied from wet to dry, visibility was variable and it was rather windy as well.

CNJ Motorsport was proud to support Tony and Scott, prior to the race in preparation, and on hand at Mt Buller as well. Both vehicles were professionally prepared and performed faultlessly. CNJ Motorsport prepared Tony's STi for maximum performance and reliability, by building and installing a CNJ Motorsport engine, professionally tuning and race preparing it, and putting it on the car on a little diet to remove excess weight. It just goes to show that a Professionally Prepared car and a Quality Tune is absolutely essential to race successfully under all environmental conditions.

The cars drove like demons, handled like they were on rails and performed exceptionally well under adverse conditions!

All the staff at CNJ Motorsport would like to congratulate Tony and Scott and can't wait to see them carve up the next tarmac! Great work guys
